The Danube Cycle Path with charm
This trip is without any doubt the most comfortable way to discover the beautiful landscapes of the Danube by bicycle.
The itinerary stands out for its carefully selected quality hotels. It’s ideal for those who enjoy discovering the world by bicycle, without having to give up the comfort of a luxury bed at night. The authentic atmosphere and hospitality of each of the 8 hotels make this famous route along the banks of the Danube absolutely unforgettable.
We offer you an 8-day self-guided trip along Europe’s most popular cycling route, along a tranquil natural backdrop. With daily stages of 40 to 65 kilometres on mostly flat and well-paved terrain, the route offers many opportunities to take a break, relax and enjoy the surroundings. A quintessential ride for the casual cyclist!*
ITINERARY
Upon arrival stroll through the pretty little baroque town of Schärding and marvel at the famous Silberzeile lane. From here you will arrive in Passau, the city where the three rivers meet (Danube, Eno and Ilz). The cycling path will follow the Danube reaching the town of Engelhartszell, where the only Trappist monastery in Austria is located.
You will ride through the nature reserve of the Donauleiten towards the historic city of Linz, offering a wide range of pubs and eateries.
Halfway, the route leads you through the Strudengau valley, a part of the river once feared by sailors fighting the strong currents. Today it is one of the most enjoyable parts to cycle. When you stop in the city of Melk, don't forget to look up to admire its impressive monastery overlooking the Danube.
Apart from towns with their vibrant culture and impressive natural environments, the route also offers plenty of gastronomic variety. The vineyards and the famous Grüner Veltliner wines of the Wachau region really invite for a wine tasting, which - of course - we have organized for you.
The final destination is the city of Vienna, where you can choose to arrive by bike or train, depending on your itinerary. The hotel offers many possibilities to rest up from the trip and recover quickly so that you do not have to miss anything of this buzzing metropolis.
*This route is also suitable for the whole family, nevertheless we don’t recommend it for kids under 15 years old. For more information contact us.
