Cycle from Prague to Dresden in 6 days

Discover the region between the two cities that back in medieval times were the epicentre of the region: Prague and Dresden. Let yourself be surprised by a country that holds the largest number of castles in Europe, and has the highest beer consumption per capita in the entire world!

From the fascinating sandstone columns and cliffs of Bohemian Switzerland to the peaceful vineyards of Mělník, you will sure take home some great memories in your bike panniers!

This 6-day self-guided cycling trip starts in Prague, crosses the north of the Czech Republic and ends in Dresden, European city par excellence (the poem that now is the anthem of the European Union was written here by the famous poet Schiller). With daily stages of 25-52km, mainly on one of the most developed cycling paths of the country, it’s an ideal route for the casual cyclist. Enjoy every bit of it without having to worry about logistics: while you arrive by bike your luggage will be transferred to the next hotel.

ITINERARY
Arrival to Prague is at your own leisure. Discover the city on foot or by bicycle: we recommend you to take a guided city bike tour so you won’t miss any of the highlights or hidden corners. Visit the famous Town Square with the Astronomical Clock and the Charles Bridge over the Vltava River.

Hop on your bike and start riding through one of the most important Czech wine-growing regions, where we recommend you to visit the Chateau Veltrusy. The route continues through a lively rural area of great agricultural importance: here the soil is the most fertile of the entire Czech Republic. You will arrive to Roudnice, one of the oldest towns in the country and an excellent place for a picnic.

An enormous contrast with the peaceful, quiet countryside is the fortress of Terezin. It was used as a concentration camp during the WWII, bearing witness to the dark side of the 20th century and really worth a visit.

Following an old trail route along the Elbe river banks, you’ll be entering in the romantic region of the Czech Central Mountains and find yourself surrounded by medieval castles looming over visitors from the narrow peaks of extinct cones.

There’ll be an opportunity to leave your bikes aside and dedicate the whole day exploring the Czech and Saxon Switzerland National Park by foot. Hike up to the largest natural arch in Central Europe –  Pravčická Brána, you’ll surely be amazed.

Back on the bike again you will cross the German border and enjoy a short ferry trip over the Elbe river. Enjoy some great views of the area, combining natural beauty with cultural jewels. The system of fortresses and castles built by Saxon kings are on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The final destination of the trip is Dresde, a great cultural treasure. Even though the city was almost entirely destroyed in WWII, a great reconstruction job has been done. You can choose to add some days here, allowing yourself the time to visit all its churches and monuments. The Opera house, the baroque Zwinger Palace, the Hofkirche Cathedral, these are just a few examples of all this lively city has to offer.
