Cycle from Prague to Vienna in 6 days

Think of quiet empty roads through rural landscapes in a place where time is still passing by slowly. Fairy tale landscapes with castles and forest full of history and hidden legends. Think of Bohemian craft been, Moravian wines, plum pastries…
This is the Czech Republic, and there’s no better way to discover this amazing country than by bicycle!

This 6-day self-guided cycling trip starts in Prague, crosses Moravia all the way to Austria and ends in Vienna, former capital of the Holy Roman Empire. With daily stages of 40-60km on mainly flat and well paved terrain, it’s a perfect trip for the casual cyclist.

ITINERARY
Arrival to Prague is at your own leisure. Discover the city on foot or by bicycle: we recommend you to take a guided city bike tour so you won’t miss any of the highlights or hidden corners.

Visit the famous Town Square with the Astronomical Clock and the Charles Bridge over the Vltava River. Take a stroll through the parks or get lost between the impressive imperial buildings where every now and then you’ll still get reminded of the old soviet times.

Your cycling route starts in Nymburk, the famous basketball city, where you will arrive by train or organized transport from Prague. Make your way by bike to Kutná Hora, a city whose silver mines paid for Columbus' exploration to the New World. Don’t forget to visit the marvelous St Barbara church, a true masterpiece of gothic architecture.

Before you hop on the bike again, and only if you dare, visit the Sedlec Ossuary… surely one of the most unusual chapels you’ve ever seen. It’s decorated with the bones of more than 30.000 people!

In the afternoon you’ll arrive to the small lake of Buňkov, an excellent place to take a break and go for a swim, before you get to Pardubice. Try its famous gingerbread for breakfast, which will sure give you enough energy for a full day in the saddle!

The route takes you over gently rolling hills to the city of Litomyšl, the birthplace of the renowned composer Bedřich Smetana. The castle of this charming town was listed as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

Visit Polička and try a pint of pivo in one of its craft breweries before making your way to Brno (by train). This South Moravian capital is internationally renowned for its functionalist architecture, such as Villa Tugendhat by Mies van der Rohe, a real masterpiece.

One of the highlights of the trip is the city of Mikulov. Visit the majestic castle whose origins date back as far as the Middle Ages, when the caravans traveling on the Amber Road were seeking the protection of its walls.

Following what once was the ‘Iron Curtain' you will cross the border and arrive to Mistelbach in Austria, the final destination of the cycling route. Hop on the train (or keep cycling if you wish) to Vienna and enjoy this imperial city at your own pace.
