Description and itinerary
We offer you an itinerary of more than 500 kilometers crossing two countries and connecting two capitals. Pack your suitcase (we'll take you from hotel to hotel), hop on your bike, and explore the landscapes of the Czech Republic and Germany on two wheels.
This 13-day self-guided bicycle trip It almost entirely follows the flow of the Elbe River, until it reaches the pine forests of Saxony and the lakes of Potsdam. With daily stages of 38 to 60 kilometers with little gradient, the route is designed for regular cyclist.
ITINERARY
The first section will take you through an important wine region until you reach the city of Melnik, built on a hill, high above the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers.
You will continue through gentle landscapes on the banks of the Elbe, without losing sight of the curious Říp mountain. According to legend, on this hill of volcanic origin, the first Czechs settled many centuries ago.
Before entering Germany, the road follows an ancient trade route, which once connected the Czech kingdoms with the Saxon kingdoms. Medieval castles, buildings and ruins from World War II and the beautiful Bohemian Switzerland National Park These are some of the points of interest.
Once you cross the border you will reach Dresden, a beautiful city, which has recovered its splendor after the intense destruction suffered at the end of the Second World War. With a wide range of museums and monuments to visit, you cannot miss the pleasure of having a coffee in one of its squares.
Pedaling through the landscapes of Saxony is like entering a fairy tale world. The city of Meißen, famous for the porcelain that has been manufactured there since the 18th century, is the next destination.
You will go through Wittenberg,, cradle of Lutheranism and place where the Protestant Reformation was born in the 16th century. It is an idyllic city that is well worth visiting. Its set of monuments appears on the list of UNESCO World Heritage.
Once you have left the Elbe behind, you will enter an area of dense pine forests, until you reach the open landscapes of the lakes of Potsdam.
From this important bourgeois city, known for housing the former residence of the kings of Prussia, you can choose to reach Berlin by train.
Once in the city, we recommend staying a few more days to visit Berlin in peace.
