Under King Charles II, in 1666, the Pósito (which the RAE defines as: A municipal institute of very ancient origin, intended to maintain a supply of grain, mainly wheat, and lend it under reasonable conditions to farmers and residents during the months of less abundance) of the town of Madrid, was moved next to the Puerta de Alcalá from the Cava Baja de San Francisco, on the outskirts of the town.

In 1872, the architect Francisco de Cubas designed the construction of a palace for the residence of Mr. López Dóriga. The design was influenced by the composition and classical Italian style of the now-defunct Palace of the Marquis of Alcañices.
As befits a temple of the Franciscan order, the façade of the church is very austere. The floor plan is a Latin cross, with a single nave of three sections, with niche chapels between the buttresses, and covered by a barrel vault.
In 1109, the Almoravid troops of the Muslim emir Ali Ben Yusuf camped under the Alcázar with the aim of taking Madrid from the Christians. We already know the story: Ben Yusuf withdrew and Madrid remained Christian. The space under the Alcázar was given the name Campo del Moro.
