SECRETS OF TIAN SHAN ON MTB

It is possible that Kazakhstan suggests huge desert steppes. Nothing could be further from the truth if you join the adventure “Secrets of the Tian Shan”. Our trip starts from Almaty, the former capital of the country and whose enclave is a source of envy for almost any large city. At the foot of the northern mountain ranges of the famous Tian Shan, With its monumental peaks above 6000 m altitude, the views from the city's lively streets and cafes look like impossible paintings.

On our route we will enter, precisely, into the mountains to the south and east of Almaty – the Ili-Alatau, part of the Tian Shan – to enjoy on our mountain bikes the virgin nature so typical of the mountainous areas of Central Asia and, above all, to meet the most picturesque lakes in the region, such as the unmistakable Kaindy Lake, and the enormous green or semi-arid steppes. The trip will also allow us to get closer to local lives that take us back to ancestral lives. Seasonal nomads are present in the region and we can see their unique and practical yurts. The route will also take us to one of the most surprising natural secrets of the country, the Charyn Grand Canyon, which invites comparisons with its Colorado counterpart.

On the way to the idyllic Tekes Valley we will have the opportunity to get close to Tuzkol, a lake with the salinity levels of the Dead Sea. From there, if luck is with us, we will be able to contemplate the highest mountain in the country in all its splendor, the Khantengri –7010 m–, which serves as a border with the neighboring countries China and Kyrgyzstan.

With Yarik, our local guide and mountain bike enthusiast, we will pedal through the most emblematic areas of the southeast of the country. A bike tour designed to delve into landscapes that are so characteristic of Central Asia, but also unique on the planet, while we immerse ourselves in the essence and tradition of the region. A mountain bike adventure with a wide variety of “postcards” to remember, which are nourished by lives with unique authenticity and hospitality. All this with the peace of mind and comfort of having professional support without giving up a good dose of epic.

TRAVEL PHILOSOPHY: As always, this bike trip is not a competition. We cycle around 40 km on average per day and the trip has a cumulative total of +4250 m, over 8 stages. In the program we will have time to enjoy the route, get closer and interact with the local population and to connect with nature. Our goal is to discover the territory “traveling slowly” prioritizing a unique experience. The support vehicle helps us focus on the most extraordinary areas given the time constraints of the trip.
