A very accessible cycle route that takes us from the interior of Matarraña to the Mediterranean Sea, in the Ebro Delta, following the steps of an old railway line, converted into a Green Way.
We propose a linear route divided into four stages for greater enjoyment, along the old railway line that connects Alcañiz with Tortosa, crossing the regions of Bajo Aragón, Matarraña, Terra Alta and Baix Ebre, ideal for mountain biking, trekking or gravel, or on an ebike.
During the tour we will be able to enjoy the historical heritage of some municipalities, the landscapes of the Maestrazgo, the Matarraña river and incredible views of the Puertos de Beceite while we pedal comfortably along the Vía Verde. Upon entering the province of Tarragona we will cross the Pàndols and Cavalls mountain ranges (through several tunnels, it is advisable to bring a headlamp) and we will enjoy the Canaletes river that gives life to a beautiful landscape.
The most demanding part of the route is between Alcañiz and Valjunquera, while the journey becomes easier as we continue towards Tortosa, for us the gateway to the Delta. Along the way, we can enjoy four bathing areas, especially attractive in spring and summer, as well as crossing 46 tunnels and 17 spectacular viaducts. During the journey we will pass through several towns and old railway stations.
The first part of the route will be marked by the agricultural landscape of olive trees, almond trees and vineyards, with impressive views to the south of the Puertos de Beceite mountain range. In the second part, we will cross the Canaletes River, where the viaducts and tunnels add to the beauty of the landscape, and we will approach the Ebro River, whose terraces, full of orange and mandarin trees, will accompany us on the final stretch towards Tortosa and the Ebro Delta.
