VALE DO GUADIANA AND VILA DO MERTOLA
As is tradition in Easter we propose a bike trip in Portugal. Our destiny: Mértola, in the heart of the Guadiana Valley Natural Park.
Some fantastic cycling vacation in a south that is both exotic and close.
Like an island that stands out from the immense sea of the Alentejo landscapes, Mértola emerges white, stepped on a hill, where the Oeiras and Guadiana rivers meet. The town is dominated by its keep, and the ruins of the 13th century castle.
It was already an important city in Roman times, with the river port located further north on the river, a gateway open to the sea and through which people and products from all over the ancient Mediterranean arrived here.
The Muslims also passed through and left their mark. From its Arab past it preserves a mosque converted into a church and narrow, steep streets.
Today the city and its surroundings offer us a wonderful landscape for our MTB routes.
