Garden of Sun and Water (6)Within the John Paul II Park we find another garden inside the park, the Garden of Sun and Water. A curious and very interesting space.

The Garden of Sun and Water is an ideal representation of Mediterranean gardens, which tries to bring together the most representative characteristics of this type of gardens. We find a recreation of the two fundamental elements for life, the Sun and Water.

In the central square we find water in the form of four sheets that make up a very original layout, the representation of the Sun is configured in the central square where a large sundial is located.

The face of the sundial is a circle 34 meters in diameter, on which the hour lines and the zodiacal lines corresponding to Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are marked.
The gnomon or style is made of COR-TEN steel. Its shape is that of a lateen sail that measures 4,54 meters high and that with the shadow of its upper edge marks the hours on the lines marked on the pavement.

There is a panel explaining how to make the hour readings, however it seems that the calculations were not done properly and the clock does not get the correct time.

This square was originally called Clock Square. On November 25, 2013, it was renamed “Plaza de Luis Federico Sepúlveda“. Who died in 2012, Sepúlveda was responsible for the General Directorate of Green Heritage of the town hall of Madrid, and one of those responsible for the creation of the John Paul II park.

A very interesting space to enjoy a walk outdoors, with many panels that illustrate the species present in the garden.

A abrazo.
