We propose a bike trip to get to know the International Tagus and the lands of Alcántara. The origin of the name Alcántara comes from Arabic and means “the bridge”. When the Arabs came here and found this wonderful bridge, they could not give it another name. Built almost two millennia ago, “it will last as long as the world lasts”… that is what its builder Cayo Julio Lacer recorded «Pontemperpetui mansurum in saecula mundi» in his work. However, these lands on the banks of the great Tagus River have been inhabited for millennia.
