Cycle tourism in Extremadura
We propose you a bike trip to discover one of the least known and most spectacular corners of Estremadura. The International Tajo and the Alcántara Lands.
The origin of the name Alcántara comes from Arabic and means “the bridge”. When the Arabs came here and found this wonderful bridge, they could not give it another name. Built almost two millennia ago, “it will last as long as the world lasts”… However, these lands on the banks of the great Tagus River have been inhabited for millennia. This is attested to by the Cabezo menhir, the Alcántara Bronze or the megalithic complexes that we can find. Dolmens and menhirs will be part of our route, silent witnesses of our past that have many things to tell.
The terrain that we are going to cover, through these ancient mountains, of a very special geology, is broken, varied, with areas ranging from wastelands to cliffs, with the Tagus River very present. Also local producers and a lot of culture and history to discover corners that are close to us, waiting for us.
