About Chus

Chus Blázquez is the founder and project coordinator of Rutas Pangea, a Madrid-based cycling travel agency operating since 1993. A pioneer of organized cycle tourism in Spain, he has spent over 30 years designing and leading routes across four continents and more than 50 countries. As a consultant specializing in itinerary design, destination specialization, and tourism product development, he has worked with numerous autonomous communities and regions throughout Spain and collaborated with international destination management companies. He is a regular participant in industry fairs, conferences, workshops, and seminars, both in Spain and abroad, where he speaks about bicycle tourism as an economic activity and a driver of rural development. He is the creator of the podcast Viajando Despacio (Traveling Slowly) and a leading voice in specialized and general media outlets, including Ciclosfera, Cadena SER, Radio Viajera, El País, El Asombrario, and others. Through Rutas Pangea, he promotes initiatives for active tourism, sustainability, and rural culture through cycling.

Francisco Alcántara Ceramic School of Parque de la Tinaja

There is evidence of a ceramics factory on this site since 1877. The Florida Pavilion, the chimney, and the firing oven reinforced at its base by buttresses and with a metal strap at the mouth, called "La Tinaja", the most striking construction, still exist today.

Church of San Francisco de Borja

Located at 104 Serrano Street, it was designed by the architect Francisco de Asís Fort in neo-baroque style, built between 1946 and 1950 and inaugurated in 1965. It is integrated into the large complex of buildings that houses the mother house of the Society of Jesus in Spain.

It commemorates the victory of Charles V in the battle of Mühlberg, a small town very close to Meiben, where the imperial troops defeated the Protestant ones.

Zabálburu Palace and Library

The palace was designed in 1872 by the architect José Segundo de Lema, who also directed the construction works between 1876 and 1878. It follows the architectural trends of neo-Gothic rationalism that were promoted in his day by the French architect Viollet-le-Duc.

Monument to Julián Besteiro

The monument was made by the sculptor José Noja, Pepe Noja, a very active artist who has promoted various open-air sculpture museums. The work was installed in the gardens that bear the name of Besteiro in the Plaza de Santa Gema, very close to Vitruvio Street where the honoree lived.
