On Almudena Bridge We went to explore these two wonderful Greenways by Bicycle.
The first day Plazaola Greenway from Lekumberri (Navarra) to Andoain (Guipuzcoa). This 2014, the centenary of the launch of this railway is celebrated. The line operated from 1914 to 1953 linking the cities of Pamplona and San Sebastián. The Greenway was inaugurated in 2000 and has continued to improve its services. One of its most important achievements is the recovery of the Huitzi tunnel with its 2680 meters and which today we can cross with our bicycle routes illuminated and with a good surface, although sometimes we can find some puddles inside, but perfectly passable. Even so, it is highly advisable to have headlights on your bike.

After our mountain bike route, we went on the bus to Venta de Etxalar where we stayed. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent, thank you very much.
The second day we left directly from the Venta de Etxalar by bike to head along the Bidasoa Greenway towards the Bertiz Manor. After a celebrated moment for vermouth in Santesteban, with its beautiful mansions, we arrived at Bertiz and ascended a little along one of its routes to enjoy the autumn forest.
The “Señorío de Bértiz” has been a private estate for most of its long history. This has allowed it to be preserved in a fantastic state of conservation in the middle of a quite humanized environment.
It is in the year 1392 when we find the first reference to the ownership of the estate. In the name of Don Pedro Miguel Bértiz, appointed merino of the mountains, judge of broad jurisdiction, by King Carlos III the nobleman.
But for us the key figure is Don Pedro Ciga who, together with his wife Doña Dorotea Fernández, acquired the estate in 1898. They rebuilt various architectural and ornamental elements, especially the garden, one of the jewels of the Señorío.
In 1949 Don Pedro Ciga bequeathed the Lordship to Navarra and in his name to the Provincial Council, with the requirement of preserving it without changing its characteristics. In this sense, its declaration as a Natural Park in 1984 by the Government of Navarra should be understood.

After lunch we headed towards the small town of Oiz in search of its wonderful cheese factory. Cheeses made with raw latxa sheep's milk are included in the Artzai Gazta (Shepherd's Cheese) association. Where the milk comes directly from the shepherd's own farm. They are included in the area of influence of the Idiazabal denomination. After buying the cheeses we headed to the Venta and returned along the Greenway at night with the lights we had with us for the tunnels. Like other times, a fantastic experience riding a bike at night.
For the last day, we left the Venta again in the Bidasoa Greenway, this time heading towards the sea. This Vía Verde is the entrance into Spain of the Eurovelo Network, Namely the euroveil 1 which goes from the North Cape to the Algarve.
We stopped in Bera de Bidasoa to see the Baroja family home, a very beautiful mansion. Through it we reach Hendaye, France and from there we take the small boat that crosses to Hondarribia, where we finish our route after a bike tour.
A delight, three days that predicted bad weather, but that gave us some great autumn days, full of color and good times.
We leave you a selection of photos from these days. We hope you like them. All the best.
