Everything has changed a lot since we started reflecting on the cycle tourism sector in April.
We have tried to open a debate to help analyze the needs of our sector. Above all from the professional field, but without leaving aside other ways of approaching the reality of bicycle tourism.

We are now reaching the end of our trip, the state of alarm has ended, summer has arrived and, although it will not be like other years, it seems that we will have a different summer campaign, with a lot of uncertainty, but we are starting. We need to get going, reactivate the economies of companies, definitively get out of confinement. But we need to do it responsibly and without forgetting that in addition to the COVID19 health crisis we will have to face a complicated economic situation and not forget that the great challenge posed by the climate crisis in which tourism plays a role is still fully valid. outstanding. Our activity cannot be removed from this challenge, it is time to work to decarbonize our economies and we must provide solutions in our field of action.

Throughout these months, many things have been repeated in these meetings, about what we need to improve to produce significant changes in the sector. We want to delve deeper into these aspects in our next session.

1. We talk about improving the quality of life of people who live in destinations, preserving the environment, and contributing positively. We seek sustainability, many times we think that, since our activities are by bike, we are already sustainable per se, but that's how it is? .

2. The need to create a product club, a platform, a business association has arisen recurrently and perhaps we need to talk about governance, about what that entity/technical office/managing entity that leads this process could be like. In a society as heterogeneous as the one we operate in, it is time to think differently, perhaps a format more similar to a learning community. How to lead that change?
3. The sector is in good health, there is no doubt about it. But there are many differences by territory. Where there are already established tourist flows, the offer is wide, there is a lot of product and diverse audiences and markets are reached. However, in territories where tourist flows are not so consolidated, there is a lack of product, the offer needs to be improved and there are great shortcomings when it comes to marketing existing products. This commercialization continues to be a challenge for the sector.

4. We have debated from within, with many approaches, but it is good for us to do so with people who enter and leave the sector, we need to talk about mobility (including intermodality with public transport), innovation, rethinking management models...

We will dedicate ourselves to these diverse and exciting topics next Thursday, June 25.

It will be, as always, at 17 p.m. (CET).
