Alsace by bike: circular route from Strasbourg
Alsace is a small region in size, but great in diversity: an inexhaustible source of surprises and escape to experience truly exceptional moments.
Our journey will take us through the picture-postcard Alsace of the past, but also through its more authentic side, revealing its more unusual and undiscovered facets. This route will lead us to the crossroads of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architecture, to museums with priceless treasures, to the forests of the Vosges Mountains, the peat bogs of the Ried, and a region of dazzling vineyards. All of this will be explored via cycle paths, paved country lanes, and other peaceful rural roads.
We will depart from Strasbourg, declared a World Heritage Site, and we will cycle along the Rhône-Rhine canal to SélestatWe will continue through the traditional villages of the Ried region until we reach Colmar, an artistic city with an exceptionally well-preserved historic center.
From Colmar we will head towards Mulhousepassing by Vauban's fortress of Neuf-Brisach, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then we'll climb the famous Ruta del Vino, visiting the charming wine-producing villages of Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg and RiquewihrWe will continue towards Obernai via Ribeauvillé and Bergheim, chosen as the French people's favorite village in 2022, to finally return to Strasbourg via the Bruche Canal cycleway.
Some days we'll tackle moderate inclines and other days we'll pedal down gentle slopes, making this route accessible to cyclists with a moderate level of fitness.
