Description and itinerary
On this trip you will explore the picturesque towns of Chinchón and Aranjuez, in the southeast of the Community of Madrid, by gravel bike or cycle touring, through history, culture and nature.
Chinchón has the power to make time stand still. Its intricate streets lead us to the Plaza Mayor, a beautiful 15th-century Castilian square, considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Entering it is to feel like you're part of history. Before arriving, in the distance, you can make out the silhouette of the Counts' Castle and, at its foot, the town of Chinchón. Once in the Plaza Mayor, the parish church and the Clock Tower rise above the rooftops. Discover its theater, located in the former palace of the Counts of Chinchón, its Baroque chapels, or the Casa de la Cadena (House of the Chain)... and above all, the interiors, where the traveler can encounter a work by one of the great masters of the history of art: Francisco de Goya.
Aranjuez was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001 and is a place where nature and history merge in a unique way. Its exquisite gardens are veritable living museums, inviting visitors to stroll and relax. The Royal Palace, a jewel of 18th-century architecture, and other historic buildings such as the Casa del Labrador (Farmer's House), form a monumental ensemble of great beauty. The abundance of water, thanks to the Tagus and Jarama rivers, has allowed for the development of an irrigation system that has shaped the landscape and benefited agriculture. Since the 15th century, it has been a place of leisure for Spanish royalty: the kings of the House of Austria and the House of Bourbon left their mark on this town, embellishing it with palaces, gardens, and works of art. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Aranjuez experienced its golden age as the summer residence of the court.
