Las Merindades by bike. October long weekend
Three days cycling through northern Burgos, among mountains, forests, small villages and some of the most amazing landscapes of Las Merindades.
When we think of Burgos, it's easy to imagine a vast Castilian plain.
But you only need to continue north for the landscape to change completely.
The mountains appear.
The forests.
The valleys nestled between rock walls.
The rivers that flow down towards the Cantabrian Sea.
And small stone villages scattered across a territory that, at times, seems much closer to Cantabria than to the image we have of Castile.
That's the landscape we want to explore during the October long weekend.
Our base will be in Espinosa de los Monteros, in the heart of Las Merindades, a region we have already visited on several occasions and which we wanted to return to with one of our trips.
It will be three days and three different routes to discover the territory by bicycle.
We're not looking to travel many kilometers.
We aim to explore good roads, quiet secondary roads, tracks and trails that will allow us to reach some of the places that make this part of northern Burgos so special.
And October has something to add.
It's that time of year when the forests begin to change color, the temperatures invite you to cycle, and there are still enough hours of daylight to make the most of the day.
One of the short trips we have planned at Rutas Pangea before winter arrives. The routes are carefully designed by our expert local guide.
Accommodations
Espinosa de los Monteros
We will be staying in Espinosa de los Monteros for both nights of the trip.
Our fixed base will allow us to travel light, better adapt each day to the weather and, after finishing cycling, return to the same place to shower, rest and share the afternoon and dinner with the group.
Because this trip is not just about getting to know Las Merindades.
It's also a good excuse to meet up again, cycle together and enjoy three days of cycling before the season ends.
