Description and itinerary
The terrain along the Danube is flat or slightly downhill, and almost the entire route is on a well-maintained cycle path with no motorized traffic. Only very short stretches are there secondary roads. This cycle path is an excellent example of a perfect cycle path!
From Linz, the first stage takes you directly to Austria's oldest town: Enns. After swimming and having fun on the Roman circular route, you will pass through Grein and the so-called "Strudengau" to Marbach. On these stages, the Danube route is packed with attractions that will delight the whole family.
You will then cycle comfortably through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Wachau, one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe. Melk, Dürnstein, Spitz and Krems await your visit – the routes here can be shortened by boat.
Passing through the city of Melk Abbey, don't forget to look up so as not to miss its impressive monastery that overlooks the Danube. You will soon cross the gentle landscapes of Wachau with its vineyards that are part of the World Cultural Heritage. A place par excellence to taste their wines, an activity that we have included in the trip.
The final destination is the city of Vienna, where you can enjoy and rest at the hotel. We recommend you add some extra night(s) to calmly visit what it offers you. this lively metropolis city.
