Without ever straying too far from the waters of the Danube, For 7 days you will enjoy one of the most beautiful and popular cycling routes in Europe. With daily stages of 70 – 85 kilometers, over a mainly flat and well paved terrain, It is a trip designed for the regular cyclist. Every day the route offers you ample possibilities to discover, rest and enjoy.
The tour covers several districts of Upper and Lower Austria to finally end up in the great Vienna metropolis. Taste the area's typical pastries, try its well-known sweet cider and discover the famous wines in the taverns Buschenschank in the region of Wachau.
ITINERARY
The journey begins in Passau, the city of three rivers. The cycle path will take you across the upper Danube valley, and you will arrive in the city of Engelhartszell where is it located the only Trappist monastery in Austria.
Following the banks of the Danube you will meet him Schlögener Slinge – the place where the second largest river in Europe makes a unique 180º bend, forced by the granite of the Bohemian Massif. You will have time to enjoy it from the water, since you will cross a section by boat.
The road will take you to the city of Linz, the city par excellence to recharge your batteries in one of its abundant restaurants.
Halfway through the route you will leave the river for a moment, to detour towards St. Florian and Enns to finish in the city of grint - known for housing the oldest theater in Austria, which is still operational.
You will leave the Upper Austria region behind to continue pedaling through the region of Weinviertel, the largest wine-growing area in Austria. Then, stopping in the city of Melk Abbey, don't forget to look up so as not to miss its impressive monastery that overlooks the Danube. You will soon cross the gentle landscapes of Wachau with its vineyards that are part of the World Cultural Heritage. A place par excellence to taste their wines, an activity that we have included in the trip.
The final destination is the city of Viennawhere you can relax and unwind at the hotel. We recommend adding an extra night to leisurely explore all that the area has to offer. this lively metropolis.
