In the 9th century, King Alfonso II decided to verify for himself the presence of the bones of the apostle Saint James in a place in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. To do so, he undertook a journey that took him through mysterious forests and breathtaking mountains, from the capital of his kingdom, Oviedo, to a remote area of ​​what is now Galicia. This pilgrimage route emerged following the paths and roads of that era: the ancient Roman roads, trails, and routes used by ranchers and merchants as they traveled through the mountains.
