Our trip will begin in Fuenterroble de Salvatierra, a town in the south of Salamanca, in that area of large pastures where the holm oaks give way to the oak as we approach the mountains of Béjar.
We will pedal along dirt tracks that were once Roman roads and that today are part of the Eurovelo 1 as it passes through Castilla y León. We will arrive at Béjar along a Greenway, the Natural Paths program is recovering this old railway route that once linked the Palazuelo station, today called Monfragüe, with Astorga. From Béjar we will crown the Puerto de Béjar to launch into Extremadura, we leave the plateau to descend to the Ambroz Valley of Cáceres: Baños de Montemayor, Hervás (a must stop) and Jarilla. After the oaks and chestnut trees at the head of the valley, we return to the pastures to finish our route near Plasencia, a city with two Cathedrals on the banks of the Jerte River.
Plasencia was founded by Alfonso VIII, at the express wish of his wife, Leonor de Plantagenet, sister of King Richard the Lionheart who fell in love with the meander of the Jerte River that embraces the ancient city.
The chosen place to sleep is Baños de Montemayor, we will stay in the Baños de Montemayor Spa.
