Description and itinerary
An adventure along the southern coast of Brittany, between Quimper and Vannes, discovering the coastal landscapes and historical riches of southern Brittany.
In six stages, you will connect the French Finisterre with the Bay of Morbihan. Start and finish in two fascinating cities that set the tone for this route with many places of historical interest. The famous megalith alignments of Carnac are undoubtedly the most precious treasure and you will have the opportunity to discover them during your stay.
Throughout this getaway, you will pass through small villages made up of typical Breton granite houses and numerous very picturesque ports. These are lively areas of life, where every day a little more is written about the history of these localities closely related to the ocean. You will undoubtedly succumb to the charm of the fishing ports of Concarneau, Trinité sur mer or Auray, among the most beautiful in Brittany. For lovers of fresh fish and seafood, delicious feasts are announced between the bike stages. A tip: prepare your taste buds!
True to its reputation, Brittany offers sumptuous postcards, authentic and typical landscapes that constitute the charm of the region. From the white sand beaches to the picturesque port of Saint-Goustan, passing by the photogenic Etel estuary and the rugged coastline of the Quiberon peninsula. A beautiful mosaic of landscapes awaits you.
Between the bicycle sections, several maritime crossings allow you to cross the estuaries and rivers that flow into the ocean. These short cruises are also a time to savor the surrounding landscape and better appreciate the strong bond the locals have with the sea.
ITINERARY
Arrival in Quimper, at the traveler's expense.
Your adventure begins in Quimper. We meet there to prepare for departure. Free afternoon, take the opportunity to explore the narrow streets of its historic heart with elegant half-timbered houses. Let yourself be tempted by a Breton cake, accompanied by a bowl of cider, ideal to prepare for your trip to Brittany.
From Quimper, cycle south towards the ocean. From Fouesnant you can see the wide bay where the city of Concarneau is located, famous for its fishing port ranked among the top ten in France. You can almost smell the fresh fish.
We head towards Pont Aven, on a day of varied landscapes. Although the morning will be hilly, the afternoon offers a fairly flat route. And if the morning is pastoral and bucolic, the afternoon reveals a much more maritime and coastal side. Along the way, don't miss the charming port of Doelan. Cross the Laïta by boat, a short and pleasant cruise. It's your chance to recharge your batteries before the last leg of the day that will take you to Lorient, a port city rich in history.
From Lorient you cross the Blavet estuary. Once on the opposite shore, you will skirt the coast of the Gavre peninsula before reaching the pretty port of Etel. The small town is on the estuary of the same name. It offers one of the most famous postcards of Brittany, with the small island of Saint-Cado and its house in the middle of this narrow inland sea. Then, for a change of scenery, your route will take you into the Erdeven dunes, a surprising natural space. Before La Trinité sur mer, the highlight of this beautiful stage, a must-see is the megalithic alignments of Carnac: a Neolithic site of inestimable wealth!
This circuit, about sixty kilometers long, allows you to discover the town of Quiberon and the different aspects of its famous peninsula. If the east coast is relatively urbanized, the wind-swept west coast presents an extremely wild and unmanaged environment.
You will approach the Gulf of Morbihan and its beautiful inland sea. You reach Auray, which has a charming historic center. Head to the most interesting place - the port of Saint-Goustan. You will arrive in Vannes at the end of the day, ideal for a pleasant walk around the city.
