March is full of events and talks where you can meet great cyclists. In our program we will learn how to get started on bike trips with Fran de Snail Touring, Maria Taurizano who tells us about his first bicycle trip and some great bicycle adventures with Cristiano de TDA Global Cycling. A program like we like the most, very traveling.
It has been an intense few weeks, two weekends ago we were at the Fiets in Utrech, probably the best cycle tourism fair held in Europe. It also coincided with the celebration of the Bikemotion Benelux and all the big bicycle and equipment brands were there.
This week the ITB was also held in Berlin. The EuroVelo Cycle Tourism Awards were presented at the Berlin fair, with the aim of recognizing and promoting bicycle tourism development initiatives. A tourist proposal that is increasingly important and has an impact in Europe. These awards have been announced this year for the first time, with two categories, the most popular country for bicycle tourism. The winner was France and Spain was third, and the most popular bicycle route in which the EuroVelo 1 - the Atlantic route that passes through Zamora - came in second place after the Rhine route (EuroVelo 15), we will talk to you in more detail. details of these fairs in upcoming programs.
But we have had many more things, on Friday night we were able to enjoy a very enriching evening at the World Bicycle Days, which as always organized by Luis Markina, three trips were presented on the stage of the Clunia Theater in Burgos, the first to charge of Loumkoua and David with their project from the Border to the Heart. Last year we spoke on Viajando Despacio with David before they began their trip that took them from Ceuta to Brussels by bicycle. A project to demand a different Europe. It was exciting to see how Loumkoua, a Cameroonian, remembered that he entered Spain a few years ago through Ceuta.
The next proposal was a family bicycle trip, under the title Everything is possible if you try: Luisja, María, Pablo, Iris and Buba take a tour through Spain and France showing us how you can travel by bike with children, enjoying and The little ones enjoy a great adventure, accompanied at all times by their dog Buba. A surprise to know that Luisja is none other than Luis Markina's son, the proverb is true, right? Like father Like Son.
And it was also the longest family presentation of the night, by the Supertramp family: Susana, Oscar, Lucía and Darío who toured Europe on a Trike for a year, and told us about it in a fantastic way. But we will not advance you much, since we do not want to do spoiler and if everything goes well, you will be able to listen to them here next week.
We missed the IATI Conference on great trips organized by Itziar Marcotegui and Pablo Strubel, we missed Cinecicleta and Alvaro Neil el Biciclown. But we had to pedal through Extremaduran lands. I was returning to my town in the Jerte Valley, and although the forecasts were for lots and lots of rain, we had a great time and got just a little wet. Furthermore, as that famous Dutch saying goes that 30 days on a bike has recovered as the motto #nosomosdesucar, we are not afraid of a little water. And the Jerte Valley showed us a splendid image, in gorges, waterfalls and streams the water flowed incessantly. The Jerte River looked more like the Rio Grande than the Jerte of my childhood, wild images, of untamed nature. We toured the Garganta de los Infiernos and Los Pilones, a section of the Carlos V Route, we rode among chestnut trees, oaks and a clearing between cherry trees. It is estimated that in the valley there are more than a million cherry trees that have not yet given us their flowers this year.
As if that hadn't been enough, we have more to tell, last Monday we were able to see the premiere of the documentary Northern Horizon by Juan Sisto and Álvaro Sanz. A great opportunity to enjoy the documentary and have the protagonists there to tell us what the experience was like, meet Bea, a surprise character, and greet Juan in person, whom we were lucky enough to have in an interview a few months ago.
Two more people were able to attend the premiere thanks to Juan's generosity and the raffle we organized on Viajando Despacio's Facebook.
