BEECH TREES OF QUINTO REAL AND IRATI (Navarra)

The most famous forests of Navarra, located between the Pyrenean valleys of Erro, Alduides, Sorogain and Irati, are crossed in Quinto Real by the river arga that hides unique corners such as the ruins of the Royal Weapons Factory Ugi or  Odia beech forest.

Dominated by Mount Adi, it is a privileged space as its name reminds us (In the 13th century, the quinta was the part that was paid to the Navarrese kings for the use of pastures and mountains)

The curious history of this mountain is the story of a dispute, that of two states and three valleys about their border line. After long years of conflict, in 1856 the mugas were delimited by the Boundary Treaty, an agreement that was successively renewed over the years. As agreed, the inhabitants of Baigorri will enjoy in perpetuity and exclusively the right to grazing on the northern slope of Quinto Real, upon payment of an annual rent from the French Government. Today that rent is collected by the Spanish government.

We will enjoy it by exploring it on foot, along roads in both states and different valleys, using the Eugi Rural Hotel as a base, on the edge of the beautiful reservoir of the same name.
