Tio Pio Park or the Seven Tits (2)We left the tourist center of Madrid to go to Vallecas and visit a very special park and probably one of the best viewpoints in Madrid, the Cerro del Tío Pío Park, also known by Seven Tits Park, for its mounds and for that taste that is so Madrid and that we have already referred to on many occasions of giving things a new name.

We can get to the park by public transport, both by bus and subway. If you opt for the metro, it is best to get off at the Buenos Aires stop and then go up Pio Felipe Street.

There was a ceramics factory in this place. The morphology of the hills that give this park a unique peculiarity (similar to the hills that we can see in the Manzanares Linear Park), is because they were waste dumps, currently restored and converted, giving the park those characteristic “tats.”

The park was designed by the architects Manuel Paredes Grosso, Jose Manuel Palao y Julian Franco and the engineers Arthur Soto y Jose Luis Orgaz. The construction was carried out between 1985 and 1987. We must not forget that in 1985 he was still mayor of Madrid, Enrique Tierno Galvan, the old professor, which favored the improvement of many peripheral neighborhoods until then forgotten by municipal policies.

At the top we find the Vallecas Viewpoint, a very lively terrace and a sculpture by the Cádiz sculptor Enriquez, call: “Illusory Real Triangle”.

In the park we can see sports courts, large expanses of grass, a bike path and abundant trees: pines, poplars, plane trees and acacias.

But the best of all are its views of Madrid, and the Sierra de Madrid, especially at sunset. Views that he already painted Antonio López, long before the Park was built.

Don't you know him? Well, it's a very good time for you to pay it a visit.

A abrazo.
