Last week we were invited to chat about bike trips the program La Ventana from La Cadena Ser, with Carlos Francino and Paco Nadal.
The reason, the celebration of World bicycle Day on June 3.
Carlos Francino asked us for some basic tips to get started on bicycle trips.
It seemed to us that, since we shared them with the listeners of La Ventana, how could we not share them with you.
We leave them here for you. For me, the basic tips, if you are thinking about taking your first bicycle trip, are the following:
– Choose a route according to your physical fitness, go little by little, try a weekend route before embarking on a trip of a week or more.
– There are some basic accessories that will come in handy. like gloves and sunglasses. Speaking of the sun, on the bike we spend many hours outdoors and we must protect ourselves, it is also advisable to bring something warm or a raincoat.
– It is essential to replace fluids, drink abundantly. We are doing physical activity and we have to hydrate.
– Most important of all, get into enjoyment mode. Traveling by bike is traveling at a pace that allows you to relate intensely with the landscape and also with the people you will meet along the way.
One last comment, for a few years the use of electric bicycles has not stopped growing and this is allowing people who had never tried to travel by bicycle to get excited thanks to assisted pedaling. Keep that in mind.
In the program we also talk about some route proposals, some simple and others for cyclists who like to challenge themselves.
There are some ideal routes to get started such as Danube Route, especially the sections between Passau and Vienna and from Vienna to Budapest, or the route of the Castles of the Loire.
In Spain, some Natural Trails that have recovered old railway routes as Greenways, such as the Vía Verde del Aceite or the Vía Verde de Ojos Negros, are excellent options.
If you are already an experienced cyclist and enjoy pedaling, regardless of the slope, there are other options such as Transpyrenean, the Transandalus o Empty Mountains.
And if I had to choose a route as a favorite, I would choose the Route of the Cid, a route from Burgos to Valencia that crosses Empty Spain and offers us an authentic journey through the history of Spain.
At Rutas Pangea we have been organizing bicycle trips around the world for 30 years. Trips for all audiences. Affordable routes for those who want to enjoy the landscape, gastronomy and culture, or more difficult routes for those who want to challenge themselves and play sports without giving up comfort and discovering the best places in any mountain area.
Without a doubt, the best thing, that they closed the section with Dani Ku, a reference in the world of bike trips and a fantastic guy.
We leave you the podcast to listen to the program, the bike trip part begins at 47:45.
Enjoy it.
