Sierra de IrtaThe Irta Natural Park and Marine Natural Reserve is a protected area since 2002, located northeast of Castellón, in the Baix Maestrat region. The central axis is made up of a mountain range that runs parallel to the coastline for 15 km, practically making up the last unaltered redoubt of the Castellón coast. Here we can find cliffs, beaches and coves, the Torre Badum cliff stands out above all, one of the highest in the Valencian Community.

The mountain range does not have high altitudes, the highest peak is Campanilles, with its 572 meters. The mountain range has great biodiversity, with well-preserved Mediterranean vegetation and where we can find dense forests of great forest value. Although the scrub formations stand out as befits these Mediterranean mountain ranges.

But the main value of the Sierra de Irta is to show that the conservation of nature, the safeguarding of the territory, offers greater possibilities for the tourist development of a region, allowing the implementation of tourist initiatives with greater added value, with tourism of higher quality and aligned with the sustainable tourism proposals that are trending for the most demanding markets. An opportunity to deseasonalize tourism, to attract audiences interested in more responsible tourism and eager to encounter natural and cultural heritage.

Thus we can understand the Sierra de Irta, as an island, as a lighthouse that shows us that there is another possible tourism and that we must preserve at all costs, every kilometer, every meter of our coastline free of urbanization.

Today this mountain range allows us to enjoy hiking and mountain biking routes, an ideal place to consider some cycling vacation or other activities in contact with nature.
