MOUNTAIN BIKE ON THE ROUTE OF LA PLATA AND CASTAÑOS DEL TEMBLAR FROM OCTOBER 17 TO 19

To this Fall we propose a bicycle trip in the North of Cáceres. Our destiny: Hervas, in the Ambroz Valley and Silver Route as it passes through Lands of Granadilla.

The Ambroz valley in the North of Extremadura offers us an idyllic landscape for our MTB routes.

The Ruta de la Plata crosses the valley, of great importance in Roman times, has left us for posterity one of the jewels of the region, the Roman city of Cáparra and its well-known Arch of Cáparra. La Vía de la Plata, linked the cities of Itálica (near Seville) with Augusta Emerita (Mérida), the Vía de la Plata had its extension in the north, to Gijón, through the Vía Carisa.

Another of the strong points of our tour is the town of Granadilla, a walled town that preserves its imposing 60th century castle, next to the Gabriel y Galán reservoir. The construction of this swamp was the cause of its forced eviction in the XNUMXs of the XNUMXth century. It is currently part of the interministerial program of Recovery and Educational Use of Abandoned Villages. 

But without a doubt, the main attraction of the region at this time of year is its forests, an excellent patch of forest where oaks and especially chestnut trees stand out. In the Castañar del Temblar we find a treasure of Extremaduran nature, a chestnut forest in the middle of the oak forest. and which has five copies of century-old chestnut trees cataloged as unique trees of Extremadura. There are also beautiful pastures of oak and cork oak, where at this time it will not be unusual for us to see cranes. They come here to spend the winter and take advantage of the acorn harvest. An ideal destination for nature tourism.

If all this were not enough, the town where we sleep, Hervas It is very attractive, full of history and legends and the center of an important Jewish community since the 15th century, from that time the trace of its Jewish quarter is preserved, which is part of the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain "Caminos de Sefarad".
