La Cuesta de Moyano is a well-known pedestrian street that has hosted the permanent Madrid book fair since 1925, with around thirty wooden booths dedicated mainly to the purchase and sale of second-hand books. It's like going to the Rastro , but only books and every day. From the latest news on the market to out-of-print books or first editions, difficult to find, or classic books at a very reduced price.
The street is known as “Cuesta de Moyano” due to its inclination, two monuments preside over each of its ends: on the one hand a tribute to Pío Baroja, fantastic Spanish writer of the well-known Generation of 98; and on the other, a statue of Claudio Moyano, a XNUMXth century Spanish politician to whom the slope is named.
La Cuesta de Moyano is one of those corners of Madrid reserved for the most traditional culture. A place for those who venerate the book as an object and have a vocation to collect it.
But the location of the fair, in one of the most touristic environments in Madrid, makes it a meeting point for all types of audiences. Its proximity to Retiro Park and Atocha station generates a large traffic of tourists and families.
Some of the best booksellers in Spain have booths on Cuesta de Moyano, such as Carmelo Blázquez or Alfonso Rui Davetz. An ideal place to spend a good time browsing old books, looking for gifts or simply treating ourselves.
We have to help ensure that the Cuesta de Moyano and its book fair do not fall into oblivion. A cultural jewel of Madrid that opens every day and offers us a great value proposition, with an air of nostalgia for better times gone by in a world where digital seems to make us forget the pleasure of turning the pages of a book.
Greetings and enjoy the search.
