This is the church of the former Monastery of the Visitation of nuns of Saint Francis de Sales, known as the Royal Salesas, which was founded by Barbara of Braganza, wife Ferdinand VI in 1748. The works were completed in 1757 and were carried out by the French architect Francisco Carlier, although the project was completed thanks to the collaboration of Francisco Moradillo which included the two bell towers. In 1870 the Monastery was dedicated to Courthouse, to which we will dedicate another day of our 365 days in Madrid.

The Rococo style church combines classical aspirations and baroque magnificence. Its interior is quite impressive, very ornamental, decorated with bronzes, marbles and multicolored stones. It is not surprising since the funerary monuments of Ferdinand VI and Barbara of Braganza are preserved here, buried here according to their wishes. They are the only kings of Spain (except the queen María de las Mercedes de Orleans, whose grave is located in the Almudena Cathedral) that are buried in the capital. These mausoleums were designed, commissioned by Carlos IIIBy Sabatini, and carved in marble and porphyry by the sculptors Francisco Gutierrez y Juan Leon.
