CONCEPCION Church (10)The sight of this church usually does not leave us indifferent, its height and especially its whiteness, captures the attention of passers-by. Also visible from many of the viewpoints in the center of Madrid, it has a captivating silhouette. It is located on Goya Street, corner with Núñez de Balboa.

On December 26, 1902, the foundation stone of the temple was laid. The person in charge of the design was the architect Eugenio Jimenez Correa, also author of the Church of San Fermín de los Navarros. Jiménez Correa was in charge of the work until his death in 1910. He finished the church in the Salamanca neighborhood, the architect Jesus Carrasco.

On May 11, 1914 it was inaugurated by the king Alfonso XIII and his wife the queen Victoria Eugenie. In neo-Gothic style and with modernist details, the tower stands out - almost 44 meters high - and is topped by an iron structure, crowned in turn by an effigy of the Immaculate Conception, which weighs 5.000 kilos.

The Church has undergone several restorations throughout the last century. The first, in the mid-50s, the most important took place in 1985, when its state was close to ruin, and the last one last year, on the occasion of the celebration of its first centenary.

A abrazo.
