Monument to Doctor Jiménez Díaz, located in the Plaza de Cristo Rey, between the Clínica de la Concepción (the Jiménez Díaz Foundation) and the San Carlos Clinical Hospital.

Jiménez Díaz was born in 1898, he completed high school studies at the San Isidro Institute in Madrid. Later he studied medicine at the San Carlos Faculty of Medicine. In 1935 he managed to give shape to one of his desires, founding a clinical researcher, creating a Medical Research Institute at the Faculty of Medicine, unfortunately the Civil War ended his project.

In 1955, a new Medical Research Institute opened its doors in a new building that rose in Moncloa, on the ruins of the Rubio Foundation. There he located the famous Clinic that, after Jiménez Díaz's wife, was called de la Concepción. In 1963, both organizations, the Institute and the Clinic, were unified under the name of Jiménez Díaz Foundation.

The monument-fountain is the work of the Emeritus Juan de Avalos, made in 1969. We can see on a white marble monolith the relief of the bust of the famous doctor. In front of the monolith and above the fountain are three bronze female figures.

A tribute to a person of great value, so we can read on his monument, “man, science and the country pay tribute to him.”
