SAMSUNGWe begin our series of 365 days in Madrid with a fairly recent element in the landscape of Madrid. It was inaugurated on March 24, 2011, after 14 months of work and a whopping 13,6 million euros. It is the most striking bridge on the Madrid Río, in the shape of a double corkscrew designed by the French architect Dominique Perrault. The Caja Mágica, the high-performance tennis center located a few kilometers downstream next to the Manzanares River, is also his work.

The walkway, more than 250 meters long, is located between the historic Toledo Bridge and the Prague Bridge; It is pedestrian and incorporates a bicycle lane.

The main structure, self-supporting, made of steel, consists of two helicoids that intersect diagonally, in which a silver band of metal mesh is intertwined with the main structure and protects walkers from the sun and the elements. As if it were "stitched" in a spiral, this band manages to create a dynamic and patterned line within the Arganzuela park. A very futuristic vision that has become a privileged viewpoint of the magnificent Toledo Bridge.

The bridge is designed as a monument in itself so that it captures the attention of passers-by, and becomes one of the emblematic images of Madrid Río. Its nighttime image is especially attractive, thanks to the luminaires that illuminate it from below and the 32 streetlights inside.

Pangea Routes It is located very, very close to the Bridge and on many occasions it is our access to the Madrid River, to begin our bike routes through Madrid.

By the way, if you go through the area, don't ask about the Perrault Bridge, is best known for the Corkscrew Bridge, that's Madrid. However, on his website, Perrault continues calling him Arganzuela Footbridge.
