On florida cemetery The 43 shot by French troops on May 3, 1808 are buried. It is also the oldest burial place in Madrid and little known because it can only be visited on rare occasions. It was erected in 1798, at the initiative of the Royal House to be used by its employees and family members. 

In the early morning of May 2 to 3, 1808 and in the Principe Pio Mountain, near where the base of the cable car is today, the victims of the repression ordered by Joaquín Murat, Duke of Berg, were “arcobuced.” Their bodies were left unburied, on the sacrificial ground, from May 3 to 12, when Julián López Navarro, a priest from the hermitage of San Antonio, took them to the temple and, after celebrating a service for the dead, buried them in the nearby cemetery of the employees of the Royal Family.

Now is the time of year when the cemetery can be visited, during May and June, on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 13 p.m.
