Between Arturo Soria Street and the M-30, at number 5 Albacete Street, we find a very curious building, the AGF BuildingOf course in Madrid, as always, we renamed it and it is better known as the The Cubes Building, there are plenty of explanations for anyone who sees it. Its appearance is that of cubes stacked on top of each other, supported by 16 pillars measuring two and a half meters in diameter.

The official name of the AGF Building comes from the project's construction company, the French financial company AGF (Assurances Generales de France) Management Limited.

The French company commissioned the project to a team of French architects. It was designed in 1974 by the architects Michael Andrault, Pierre Parat, Aydin Guvan y Alain Capieu. The work was carried out between 1976 and 1981 under the supervision of the architect Luis de la Rica and Castedo.

The design of the building is inspired by the Hungarian architect living in Paris, Yona Friedman, author of the manifesto The mobile architecture, whose theories have influenced the Metabolism movement of the Japanese in the sixties that had great architects such as Kenzo Tange, Arata Isozaki o Bernard Tschumi.

It was the headquarters of the AGF, and also the headquarters of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain until December 2011. Today the headquarters of the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation and its facilities are rented to companies and organizations in a highly consolidated office area.

A building that currently still seems futuristic and that must have been much more so in the early eighties when it was completed.
