La Daza house o Leopoldo Daza building it is the work of Jesús Carrasco-Muñoz y Encina, an architect who studied and worked in Madrid and Valladolid during the first third of the 20th century. Carrasco-Muñoz contributed enormously to spreading the new modern architecture of the 1920s in Spain, and especially in Madrid.
This building, which was built between 1912 and 1918, is a good example of Carrasco-Muñoz's compositional and ornamental freedom. The location of the building on a fantastic corner of Príncipe de Vergara streets (its address is Príncipe de Vergara number 8) and Jorge Juan contributes to enhancing the eclectic style, with a variegated and dynamic façade. The triangular shapes stand out, very rare in the architecture of the time. A mix of medievalism and regionalism but renewed, contemporary, very much in line with Catalan modernism. The tile decorations and coverings are also curious. A very interesting architect, with works such as Church of Saint Teresa and Saint Joseph, in which we find similar resources, the magnificent Queen Victoria Hotel, previously Simeon Stores, In Plaza de Santa Ana, or the building for the New World Weekly from Larra Street.
A very unique work, very modern in Madrid at the beginning of the 20th century.
A abrazo.
