Lope de Vega House Museum (1)La House Museum dedicated to Felix Lope de Vega, born in 1562 and died in 1635, is located on Cervantes Street in Madrid, it is a building built in 1578. Lope bought it for 9.000 reales in 1610 and lived here between 1610 and 1635.

"My little house, my peace and quiet, my little garden and study". This is how Lope de Vega described his house in a letter to a friend. Located in the historic center, in the Neighborhood of the letters. The recreation of environments, recreates the daily life of the Golden age and brings us closer to its intimacy. In the house we can see works of art, furniture, belongings and bibliographical editions linked to the writer and his time.
Initially a legacy of the Antonia García Cabrejo Foundation, the house has been managed, since 1932, by the Royal Spanish Academy, for some years now, in collaboration with the Community of Madrid, in charge of management and visits.
The restoration of the house was the work of the architects Emilio Moya and especially about Pedro Muguruza. During the works, the granite jambs, which Álvarez y Baena missed in their "Children of Madrid", appeared inside the building, the inscription on the lintel of the main door was recovered, a piece of it, among the materials that filled the well.

In 1935, three hundred years after the death of Lope de Vega, the building was declared a monument and inaugurated as a museum. Since then we can enjoy your visit. A good way to imbibe Madrid in the XNUMXth century, “Beautiful Babylon, where I was born”, which Lope told Madrid. An interesting visit that reveals the homes, society, history, religion and culture of that golden age of Spanish culture.

A abrazo.
